6th Windrush Day Grant Scheme goes live

Applications are now open for the sixth Windrush Day Grant Scheme, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has announced on Wed 1 November 2023.

  • Civil society groups, charities, and councils can bid for a share of up to £500,000 for educational, arts and sporting projects in the build up to Windrush Day on 22 June 2024.

  • This community-led initiative will educate more people about the Windrush generation and story.

  • Grants will fund commemorative and celebratory events and activities in recognition of the contributions the Windrush generation and their descendants have made to UK society.

  • Some previous examples of events funded by the grant include celebratory parades, art exhibitions, and choir groups.

  • The grant scheme is now open for applications here and will close on 17 December 2023.

Background

  • To date, the government has dedicated £4.25 million in funding toward honouring the Windrush legacy. This includes £3.25 million across 6 years of the Windrush Day Grant Scheme, and £1 million allocated to the National Windrush Monument.
