Stay connected

Challenging Time

Streets are empty, many businesses are closed, people are staying at home, limiting their activities outdoors to essential shopping and a short walk or a bit of exercise.

While we are learning to live in an era of “social distancing”, during which we avoid physical contact and gatherings are banned, we must not forget our deep need as humans for social contact.

We need to explore how to stay relationally close to people even when we are isolated in our houses: new technologies can help, and many are using them for work, for social activities, for keeping in touch with friends and family.

But at Near Neighbours we realized that not everybody can access new technologies, and that we need to explore other ways to reach out and help people feel loved, valued and embraced.

SHARE THIS POSTCARD WITH YOUR NEIGHBOURS

In the last few weeks many local groups have been offering support to people in isolation (providing either food or medicines, and helping with basic tasks), but we felt it is important also to foster and extend good relationships with neighbours.

For this reason we have produced this postcard: you can print some, add a personal message on the back and deliver them to your neighbours, to let them know that you are there for them, if they need any help or just for a chat over the phone in this challenging period.
And don’t be scared, even if you have never spoken to them, or had very limited contact before: an act of kindness is always welcome!

You can also print the card and display it in your window; a passerby may see it and feel supported or inspired.

And if you display it, why don’t you take a picture and share it on social media? More people may then feel supported and inspired…

In the next few days, a black and white version to be coloured by you (or your kids) will be available.
