Small grants

In the last financial year (April 2019-March 2020) we have awarded 159 grants totalling £400,600.

There were four focus areas for Small Grants funding: engaging marginalised women and girls (47 projects), engaging refugees and migrants (32 projects), promoting meaningful social mixing (128 projects), and supporting projects working with young people to tackle serious youth violence (16 projects).

PARTNERSHIP

Across our hubs, 255 new partnerships were facilitated over the whole year. Partnership working encompassed churches, mosques, synagogues, other places of worship, voluntary sector organisations, statutory agencies, and schools and colleges. Near Neighbours coordinators and partners played a central role in initiating and nurturing these relationships.

VOLUNTERS

During the year Near Neighbours, with partners, projects and local hubs activities, has mobilised 1846 volunteers, including 376 new volunteers, totaling 57,097 volunteer hours.

Real people, honest talk

During the year we delivered the Real People Honest Talk programme in all ten local areas for a total of 14 programmes delivered, covering many places where we never had it before.

We organised  170 Small Conversations helping local residents to talk openly and honestly about issues that matter to them and 13 Big Conversations where they could share their experience with faith leaders, statutory services and political represenatives. (the last one, in Dudley, was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak).

A total of 1,521 people took part in the project (1,011 -66.5%- were women).

CATALYST

Thanks to funding by the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Charitable Foundation (in London) and the Tudor Trust (in Peterborough) and in collaboration with local schools and colleges, we organised 8 Catalyst programmes for young people, equipping a total of 146 attendees for becoming community leaders in our diverse contemporary society.

Many of the participants have gone on to start community projects, take on leadership role in their schools and workplace, and sustain meaningful friendships with individuals from different ethnic and religious background.

Leadership training

In the 12 months period Near Neighbours coordinators and partners facilitated 171 leadership training events, reaching 5457 people, of whom 3827 (70%) were women.
