Our local co-ordinator, KIM, is based at Grassroots. Grassroots engages with, and responds to, the various issues which pose a threat to community cohesion and inter faith relationships in Luton’s widely diverse context. Grassroots seeks to recognise, encourage and share examples of goodwill and good practice within and between Luton’s diverse communities.

Who are you and what do you do for Near Neighbours?
I am the Near Neighbours Coordinator for the Luton Hub. I support the grant application process from first meetings with applicants to supporting project delivery. I also help deliver Catalyst youth leadership programmes and support our national partners: Nehemiah Foundation, the Feast and Hindu Christian Forum.
What have you done in the past?
I was an International Volunteer for Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) in Sri Lanka and Mozambique for 5 years. I then ran a series of Global and Community Xchange programmes for VSO & British Council to Philippines, Indonesia, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Kenya before deciding to settle in Luton. I am also an Intercultural Trainer, a reflexologist, and Archery coach.
Why did you want to work for Near Neighbours?
Near Neighbours is a programme with an ethos I truly believe in from a professional community development perspective. It gives me an opportunity to understand the community better and facilitate others to fulfil aspirations.
Why do you love the area you work in?
I love the diversity of my community and the social action people can engage in. This area of work is about empowering and enabling. It's about bringing the community spirits alive again.
